Banana and peanut butter are an easy pair to reach for when you want something creamy, sweet and satisfying. Add them to a bowl of Greek yogurt with a little granola, and breakfast comes together in about five minutes. There is no cooking, no blender to wash and nothing you need to prepare the night before.

The ripe banana brings sweetness, peanut butter adds a rich swirl and granola gives each spoonful a little crunch. Plain Greek yogurt keeps the flavor balanced. Start without honey—you may find the banana and granola make it sweet enough.

How to Make It

  1. Spoon the Greek yogurt into your serving bowl.
  2. Stir the peanut butter in its jar if needed. Add it to the yogurt and gently swirl with your spoon, leaving some creamy ribbons. You can mix it in completely if you prefer.
  3. Peel and slice the banana. Scatter the slices over the yogurt, then add the granola.
  4. Finish with a small pinch of cinnamon, if using. Taste before adding optional honey or maple syrup, then eat while the granola is crunchy.

A Few Simple Choices

Use a ripe banana: A yellow banana with a few brown freckles gives the bowl sweetness without needing much extra syrup. A very soft banana can be mashed into the yogurt instead of sliced on top.

Choose your peanut butter: Creamy peanut butter makes a smooth swirl; crunchy peanut butter adds extra texture. Natural peanut butter works well—stir it thoroughly before measuring so the oil and solids are combined.

Choose your yogurt: Whole-milk Greek yogurt gives a rich base, while low-fat or nonfat Greek yogurt also works. If using vanilla yogurt or a sweetened granola, skip the optional honey at first.

Easy Swaps

Use almond butter in place of peanut butter for a different flavor. For a peanut- and tree-nut-free version, use sunflower seed butter and a granola suitable for your needs, checking ingredient and allergen labels.

No granola? Try a small handful of crisp cereal instead. Rolled oats are another option, but they will be chewy rather than crunchy. Stir them into the yogurt and give them a few minutes to soften if that texture appeals to you.

Keep the Prep Small

If mornings are rushed, portion the yogurt into a covered container ahead of time and refrigerate according to the label. Measure the granola into a separate dry container. When you are ready to eat, add peanut butter and freshly sliced banana.

Keep the banana whole until serving so the slices stay fresh-looking, and add granola last so it does not soften in the yogurt. This bowl is easiest to enjoy immediately after assembling.
